The Center for Aging Policy (CAP) is an initiative of the Social Work Leadership Institute at the New York Academy of Medicine.

In coordination with the National Leadership Coalition, a national advisory group of social work leaders, CAP pursues public policy solutions to ensure that there is a strong workforce of qualified social service professionals to meet the demands of America's growing older population.

As the spectrum of aging expands, from older adults who remain active and working beyond retirement age to frail older adults who require substantial medical care, social workers are playing an increasingly pivotal role, helping families navigate and coordinate both health and social service needs. CAP leverages research, public education and advocacy as part of a long-range policy agenda to ensure that the social work profession is an integrated part of care coordination for older adults.

As part of this work, CAP coordinates the Evidence Database, a frequently updated database of related published studies and articles that illuminate and advance policy discussions aging care and the role of social workers.

CAP also coordinates the Public Policy Clearinghouse, which provides up-to-date information on policies and public and private programs related to social services care for older adults at the state and national levels.

CAP also produces publications, including policy bulletins and white papers that provide synopses and analysis of public policy developments and debates relate to workforce needs in aging care.

"Today's aging population is facing challenges and issues never imagined by their parents. To help them navigate their choices and options, social workers can provide information and guidance . And SWLI is doing its part to respond to changing demographics by proactively supporting and educating highly-qualified social workers who are able to meet this urgent need."

"The Partnership Program is an amazing way to enrich learning while in the MSW program. This program facilitates the students exposure to the varying work that gerontology social workers do. This exposure combined with the extra attention and support by professors ensured adequate preparation for me as I entered the work force."
