Scoping Search

Overview:

The scoping search feature allows an exploration of the distribution of each of the variables in the database. The results of a scoping search can inform users of the database about what research is currently available, or conversely, what research might need to be undertaken.

Additionally, this method of investigation allows for either a narrow or broad examination, by user selected variables, of the range of published studies that were captured from 1985 to the present. This can result in rapidly producing a report of existing literature based upon captured content such as research design, outcomes, service settings, and demographics.

The text in the methodologies tab defines the inclusion criteria for each topic along with the records of the search strings, search dates, and a list of the variables that were extracted in the review process.

How to use this search feature: A search can be performed by selecting any 2 of the close-ended variables that were coded in the review of each study.
  1. Select one variable each for the Row and the Column.
  2. Submit the query.
  3. The results will display in a table.
  4. Select any of the cross-referenced results.
  5. A list of the studies with the criteria you selected will be displayed.
