HPPAE ALUMNI AND STUDENT COMMITTEE ON LEADERSHIP IN AGING
As you may know, the HPPAE was created in conjunction with The New York Academy of Medicine's Social Work Leadership Institute (SWLI) to grow a workforce of social workers to provide services for older Americans. Since 1999, 1100+ students from 71 programs in 31 states have been trained using this unique model and seeks to become the norm in aging education in all schools of social work in the country.
We are calling for dedicated applicants to serve as member of the HPPAE Alumni and Student Committee on Leadership in Aging (CLIA).
The focus of this Committee is to solidify the network of HPPAE alumni and students to develop their on-going leadership capacity and professional development in the field of social work and aging. As a CLIA member, there are three areas in which we will request your expertise:
- Improve communication outreach strategies to the HPPAE network;
- Create content for a tri-annual newsletter, HPPAE Happenings;
- Review submissions for the bi-annual HPPAE e- journal, GENERATIVITY.
As projects evolve, there may be other opportunities for your involvement. This is unpaid participation; however, you will receive much professional visibility for your efforts. Committee members are expected to serve a 1 year term with the option of serving a second year.
Why is increasing the workforce of leaders in aging so important?
Put simply: the population in America is aging rapidly. By 2030, the number of Americans 65+ is projected to double and represent nearly 20 percent of the total U.S. population. As increasing numbers of people live to be 70, 80, and beyond, demands for long-term health care, social services, and supportive living environments will expand, and many older adults and their families will struggle to access the services that they need.
As a graduate of HPPAE, you are uniquely qualified to play a leadership role in helping to meet this need. I hope you will consider this application as we look forward to working with you in this endeavor. Click here for application brochure.
